Andrew Nelson

Meet Andrew "Andy" Nelson
Andy is a 1989 Biochemistry Graduate of the University of Colorado. After training in all aspects of testing laboratories, at 31 years old he became the youngest Lab Director in the history of a national laboratory providing environmental, food, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical testing for government and industry.

With over 22 years of experience in the laboratory testing industry he purchased Beland Test Laboratory in Bedford, New Hampshire. Beland Labs were known for their high level of quality and quick turnaround and Andy has continued that tradition. Several years later he purchased Demers Laboratory in Springvale, Maine, now located in Kennebunk.

Andy's hands on experience in lab management include lab testing, sales and marketing, quality control, office management, building maintenance and exceptional customer service. His dedication, customer service, hard work and extensive knowledge of the lab testing business has allowed his company to grow into a million dollar business.

Andy and his family live in Bow, they enjoy fishing, hiking and traveling.

 

Lorri Maling

Lorri has been managing the Maine Division of Nelson Analytical Lab for the past ten years. She has over twenty years of experience in the water and environmental testing field. Prior to joining Nelson Analytical Lab, Lorri had been employed at other Maine area laboratories.

Lori is well aware of all Maine environmental regulations as they pertain to your testing needs. Lorri also manages the Quality Assurance Program for Nelson Analytical's locations in both New Hampshire and Maine.

 

Colleen Schwalbe

Colleen started working at Nelson Analytical Lab in September, 2005. Colleen is here to assist you with all aspects of your testing, from proper sample collection through interpreting your laboratory test results. Previously, Colleen spent many years in the environmental consulting industry, developing health based clean up levels for hazardous waste sites.

She has also worked at the NH Department of Environmental Services, and the NH Division of Health and Human Services. In these positions, she assisted in the development of state drinking water standards, and assisted the public on state environmental regulatory requirements. Please feel free to contact Colleen to discuss any questions or concerns on your current or future environmental testing needs. Colleen holds a B.S. in Toxicology from Northeastern University.

 

Trisha Connolly

Customer Service Representative and Field Technician

Tricia started with Nelson Analytical in July, 2009. Tricia performs environmental sampling and is also the lab courier for water samples collected at public water systems, and commercial and residential clients.

Having grown up with self-employed parents and then being self-employed with her husband for many years, Tricia understands the importance of each and every customer. Whether out in the field, on the phone, or at the front counter, she will do all she can to make your experience with Nelson Analytical Lab a positive one. Customer satisfaction is her goal.

 

Jarryd Holtan

Laboratory Analyst

Jarryd began at Nelson Analytical in 2011 after completing a 27 month service in the United States Peace Corps. Jarryd worked as a Water and Sanitation Volunteer in Honduras, where he organized and implemented topographic studies and designed potable water systems in collaboration with local municipalities and the Red Cross.

He studied at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and graduated with a B.A. in Biology in 2007. Currently, Jarryd works as a laboratory analyst in the Kennebunk laboratory, conducting wet chemistry, metals, and microbiological testing. He also collects samples from local Maine beaches to examine bacterial levels and trends.

 

Marcy Baraban

Customer Service Representative

Marcy is a recent newcomer to Nelson Analytical Lab, after being in the travel and retail industries for 20 plus years. Through these positions, Marcy gained extensive knowledge in customer service.

Marcy will greet you personally in the lab to sign in your samples, or on the telephone to answer all of your testing questions. She will ensure that you receive complete customer satisfaction. Marcy has a B.A. in French from University of Miami.

 

Bill Vermette

Field Technician

Bill performs environmental sampling for public water systems and residential homes. Bill will listen to all questions you may have when he is collecting your environmental samples, and will perform all sampling according to EPA methodology.

Bill holds a degree from Central Connecticut College in Psychology. Bill has been coaching basketball for over 35 years, previously at the college level (Saint Anselm) and currently at a local high school.

 

Rebecca Torrance

Rebecca Torrance joined Nelson Analytical as a part time analyst in May of 2012 at the Kennebunk, ME laboratory. Upon graduating from college, Rebecca took a full time position at the Manchester, NH laboratory in May of 2013 as a laboratory analyst. She graduated from the University of New England in May of 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biological Science. While at school, she worked for the university's microbiology department in the graduate program. Rebecca performed various tasks and assisted with research projects, broadening her understanding of both basic and complex procedures as they relate to water and food microbiology.

During her time in the Kennebunk lab, Rebecca assisted with activities such as wet chemistry analysis and water microbiology. Currently, she is responsible for testing at the Manchester lab including a wide array of wet chemistry procedures, water and food microbiology, and radon testing.
